My first visit with Mr. Wiant in the agriculture classroom in the high school was good! I got to talk to Mr. Wiant about times that would work for me to be in the classroom and all about the practicum handbook/program. Mr. Wiant and the students were very welcoming to me. I got to know some of his FFA officers pretty well and talked about their futures as most of them are seniors. It was a chill and welcoming first visit. All the Cody High School staff was very welcoming as well!!
I went and helped teach a lesson for the first time to the to the middle schoolers about animal identification. It was so fun to meet and interact with all of students! They are a great group of students that are interactive and show interest in learning about agriculture. We did three different hands on activities with the students after teaching them about identifiction on livestock. The first one was letting them make their own brand and learn how to say it. As brands are a main permeant identification on cattle and horses. They all were all creative with their brands. The second project we did was teaching them about ear notches on pigs. They got their own pig to ear notch with our assistance of what we assigned as their litter number and pig. At the end of class we had extra time to have them play an ear notch game with us as well. But the third and final project we got to do with them was decorate ear tags. Each student chose if they wanted to decorate a pig or cow tag. They got to do whatever they wanted with the tag. Some kept it simple others decorated the whole thing. Teaching the middle school was a great experience and I can't wait for the week ahead!!
Here are some pictures of the projects we did with the students!!
